Robert Bettes has always had two passions:  television and beautiful homes.  When Robert was a young 18-year-old student at Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona, he would get in his little car on the weekends and head up into the luxury subdivisions of Scottsdale, Paradise Valley, and north Phoenix.  Clearly unprepared to purchase a large, expensive home, he would walk right up to the builders and ask them questions.  Those builders were happy to show him their construction and finished models.  Like so many of us, Robert still loves to tour gorgeous properties and see all the latest building trends, interior designs, and manicured gardens.

Robert's passion for TV and public performance took him into a career of

TV broadcasting.  After graduating from the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism at Arizona State University, Robert went on to complete a second degree in Atmospheric Physics (Meteorology) from the University of Arizona in Tucson.  Robert is the host of Studio 9 on KTSM-TV in El Paso, and has served as chief meteorologist for KVEO-TV in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas, KDBC-TV in El Paso, and KVIA-TV in El Paso.  Robert is a Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM), one of only about 650 active meteorologists with that rare scientific distinction in the world.

Robert launched the first episode of The Open House Show in El Paso on March 3, 2003.  The show has aired in one or more of the following cities continuously since that date:  El Paso, Phoenix, Tucson, San Diego, Los Angeles, Wichita Falls, Austin, San Antonio, and Midland/Odessa.

Robert has a Texas-size sense of humor.  If you watch The Open House Show closely, you'll find something very familiar about Cal Cooper, the home improvement expert, Tomas del Guapo, the interior designer, and Nigel Pendelton, the gardener extraordinaire.  Robert plays all three characters on the show!  It's the entertainment, informative segments, luxury home tours, cooking segments, gardening tips, and fun-loving characters that make The Open House Show true home-shopping fun!

Robert loves his family.  He's been married to Amy for over 25 years and counting, and they have three amazing children:  Mason, William, and Corbin, their daughter.

Robert is a Christian with Faith in Jesus Christ and credits Him for the privilege of producing this show to connect Realtors, home sellers, and home buyers.

Robert is a published author, who wrote "Dear Bubble Bath, Give Back My Dad!", a Christian story of a young girl who engineers a clever way to get her stressed-out father to leave his bubble bath and return to life.  You can order a copy:

In December 2019, Robert donated his kidney to his son Mason.  You can watch the 57 minute documentary he created, The Gift: Be A Living Donor, encouraging people to become living donors, right here:
